My war poem – ‘Let nature take its course.’

I decided to be a little bit different and write my war poem about how unnatural war is from the perspective of nature. Hope you enjoy it.

Let nature take its course.

Before I knew you I was a seed, a seed you sown.

Throughout the years we blossomed –

In our own way.

I stand in the same place you brought your girls.

The girls you promised the world to for a kiss.

I stand in the same place you hid away.

Hid away from completing your chores.

I stand in the same place where you played with your friends,

Games that someday became real.

Nothing could compete with the happiness of joining

The army when you felt important even though you were already

Important to those around you.

You grew as I grew but your innocence never left.

I remember the day you told your sister you joined the army.

Emotions clashed, tears fell but you had to leave.

You were eager to apply all you knew from your games to real life.

You knew it was unnatural:

That “nature should take its course” but you had no choice.

It hurt to see you fighting, that boy who fought for fun fighting for his life.

Now, as the wind wildly whips the remaining wildflowers –

I stand alone resenting this world, this war.

Leaving me with only ghostly memories of your childish play.

Left alone withdrawn from nature –

On the ruins of human failure…
